How To Begin Yoga? (With or Without a Nice Mat)

If you're interested in yoga, perhaps you've heard of the benefits, or know a friend who is a devotee. You're curious, but are unsure if it is for you.

I will begin by defining what the term yoga means. Yoga = Yoke, which when applied to yoga means to unite the body, mind & soul.

When you think of how we live our lives. Many times we live in our minds, and are doing rote activities in which our thoughts are disconnected from our bodies, and our heart & soul's desires.

Yoga presents every individual the opportunity to unite their mind, body & soul by practicing. Let me explain why. When you step foot on your mat, you do so after your mind tells you this is a good thing.

Then as you connect your body to your yogic practice, you have the opportunity to be still and listen. You have the splendid opportunity to listen to what your mind says as you're in difficult-to-achieve postures. You get to listen to the different words your mind speaks over you while in practice, e.g. "you're no good at this" or "your body isn't made for all this bending and stretching."

Your quest for yoga has begun with the simple calling & curiosity.

Yoga begins with the call, whether you have a nice yoga mat or not. Many people feel they need all the things to get started*, a thick yoga mat, nice yoga mat, and expensive yoga mat, and the apparel too. But you don't. Just put one foot in front of the other and join us.
